Start with the light

An Experimental Study on Material Light Staging

Start with the light is the result of a playful, media-art experiment investigating light refraction and reflection on unconventional surfaces. The visual aesthetic was significantly shaped by the collaboration with light artist Mathias Stich, whose lighting design merges everyday objects like spoons with technological light sources—including car headlights and O-LEDs.

The work serves as a visual treatise on the transformation of matter through light. By deliberately repurposing industrial light sources, abstract compositions emerge that blur the line between fashion photography and fine art. It represents an exploratory quest for new aesthetic forms of expression beyond traditional studio lighting.
